At a Federal level, and at a local level, we are looking at two potential financial calamities.
NBN - hardly anybody has a favourable word for the service provided, one hears many a gripe.
There is a saying that people vote with their feet - don't like it, walk.
Two in five households (more than four million people) are ignoring the $51 billion network, preferring to maintain their current internet providers.
I have been advised, if Telstra had undertaken this project from the get go, it would have been done cheaper and more effectively. I wouldn't doubt that.
A local issue gives me more concern, and that is the relocation of the library in Young to a new costly building attached to the Young High School.
The new location may read well to some, but to the people using the library, it is not very practical. Access, especially for the older citizens will be difficult, parking a problem and at times a nightmare.
There is a saying in real estate, 'Location! Location!'. The Young library, where it currently stands is accessible, well located and to move it is a folly.
Refurbishment would have been a far better option.
Decisions made by any level of politics are open to judgement. In the two cases I have mentioned, my judgement may be wrong. Somehow I think not.

What's going to happen tomorrow? We don't know, but if we could see into tomorrow, we could be excited, blasé - or terrified.
On this day in 1963, US President John F Kennedy flew to Texas. Things may have been different if he had been able to see into the future. He was assassinated the next day.

It takes all kinds to make this world, and, unfortunately, some you could barely call human.
What type of person would consider lighting a fire in the extreme weather conditions we have and are currently experiencing.
No doubt the 'flaming idiot' who tried to do a burn to protect his cannabis crop resulting in a potentially devastating fire at Ebor is more than an idiot.
The man has been arrested, but will the law punish him as heavily as it should?
Anyone lighting fires when fire conditions are critical, or fire bans in place, should have the law come down on them In the heaviest possible manner.
The loss of life and property from these idiots' actions should put the judiciary on notice.

The world is full of idiots, and unfortunately some of them are professionals.
A couple had to have a garage door repaired and the repairman told the couple that the problem was they didn't have a large enough motor to open the door.
The husband told the repairman that they had the largest motor made at the time, a 1/2 horsepower motor.

Shaking his head the repairman said a 1/4 horsepower motor was required.
Being told that 1/2 is larger than 1/4, the repairman replied, "No it's not. Four is larger than two."
The one I told you last week was fair dinkum, so is this one, and don't hold your breath, I've got more.
