Derrick received a degree of Master of Arts, in which he had majored in Studies in Religion.
This will be an addition to his degrees of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master of History, acquired during a study programme which began in 2003.
Accompanying Derrick to the ceremony were his sons Wally (Forest Lodge) and Andrew (Ormeau, Queensland), daughter Kathy (Boorowa) and grandson Matthew McLennan (Blayney).
Derrick has this year focussed on religious history, conducting case studies on mission in Australian Christian churches and the issue of heresy in Presbyterian churches of Australasia.
Currently he is completing a Graduate Certificate in Arts, majoring in history, in which he is doing another study on the level of commitment by Australian churches to ecumenism.
This week, Derrick paid tribute to the support and encouragement he has received from his family in fulfilling his study requirements. He is enthusiastic about lifelong learning, and regards university study as an excellent way to fill the spare time available to retirees.
