They're calling it Morrison's Miracle, but against all odds the Liberal/National Coalition has been returned to power in a huge election surprise.

Ladbrokes, the betting firm, had the Labor Party at $1.06 to win the election.
That's odds of about 16 to one on, not quite Ajax odds, but as I said last week, Scott Morrison would have to do a Spear Chief to win.
Long odds on, but like Ajax, Bill Shorten went down.
A lot of people will analyse why this result came about, but with tax reform affecting self funded retirees on the agenda, the fact that Shorten was never the preferred Prime Minister and there was an element of mistrust, maybe there lies some of the answer.

Here we are in 2019 with almost everyone permanently attached to a phone.
It wasn't that long ago we couldn't talk on a phone unless it was attached to a wall - the umbilical cord of communication.
News has been passed by drum, smoke, pony express, stage coach, etc.
The telegraph was a huge advancement in communication.
It's hard to believe it was on this day in 1840 that Samuel Morse patented his telegraph linking the world with a system of dots and dashes, the most famous signal being . . . _ _ _ . . . (SOS).

In writing this weekly column, one thing that greatly pleases me is to welcome a new business to our town.
In the shed between the corner café and the Chinese restaurant, Frankie Stone has set up Boorowa Collective.
Frankie offers pre-loved clothes, including baby wear, bulk foods and some art and collectables.
She also intends to run creative art workshops.
Interestingly, Frankie is a singer and competed on X Factor in 2011.
Pop in, have a look and say hello.
While on new businesses, it is remiss of me not to have mentioned Nathan and Dalwyn Taylor's venture with the opening of Boorowa Landscape Supplies down in the industrial area.
A much needed service for Boorowa that's been operating for about six months and going well.

Congratulations to Boorowa Rugby Club celebrating 50 years this weekend.
This Saturday will be huge with 350 plus people converging on the Showground and the old pavilion to celebrate this historic milestone.
I have often said the Goldies only know one way to celebrate, but I feel on this occasion they will far exceed any celebration held before.
Fantastic effort Goldies.

Last week's News presented a great coverage of the Rugby Club's 50 years.
On reading through the list of Club coaches and life members, the name John Snelling featured.
That John Snelling is not the writer of WITS and I can assure you I was nowhere near the quality of footballer that that John Snelling was.
On two occasions we both lived in Boorowa which did create a little confusion.
I'm not him and he's not me. It's him on the Rugby Club Life Member Board, not me.
Go into the Council Offices here in Boorowa and on the Citizen of the Year board you'll see John Snelling. That's not him, that's me.
Confused? John used to work at Thompson's and I used to get phone calls about a problem with a pump and so on.
Telling the caller he had the wrong John Snelling, they quickly replied, "There can't be two of you!" There were.
That John Snelling's a great bloke. As for this one - doubtful.
