Last week I was one of those people to have the privilege of hearing a talk presented to Yass U3A (University of the Third Age) by Boorowa personality Lyn Diskon.

Her subject was the Bango Wind Farm, currently under construction by GWP Renewables.
This talk was full of interesting information on this aspect of the renewable energy community, and very refreshing after all the misinformation which has been going around in recent years.
Wind farms represent truly amazing technology.
Apart from providing necessary clean, reliable energy for the electricity grid, these projects have the potential to make a valuable contribution to the future of country communities.
Into the bargain, they also provide current and ongoing employment for a large number of residents in towns such as Boorowa.
It all sounds a 'win-win' situation.
But it did occur to me that if a few people in the district had had their way, none of this would have happened.
The lesson here is that we should be very wary of this ever-present element of negativity if the future health of our small communities is to be maximised.
The 'nay-sayers' have been very active in a number of projects in the past, including the Boorowa Retirement Hostel and the Bendigo Community Bank.
Thankfully, these negative influences have not prevailed.D
