Clubs, businesses and aged-care facilities across Tamworth, Port Macquarie, Lismore and Wagga will be the first in the state to enable customers to sign in and show their vaccination status via the same app.
It is a new feature of the pre-existing Service NSW app, which Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole has described as "helping to make life easier".
"Customers will have the convenience of checking in to a venue and showing proof of vaccination status on the one app," Mr Toole said.
"This is NSW leading the way with a pilot in the regions and helping to make life easier for our communities in the roadmap out of COVID."
Wagga RSL general manager Andrew Bell has confirmed his club will be partaking in the pilot rollout over the next week.
Baptist Caloola Centre, Loreto Home of Compassion, Mary Potter Nursing Home, O'Hara Hotels and Big W have also confirmed their involvement.
According to Minister for Digital and Customer Service Victor Dominello, integrating the vaccine certificate onto the ServiceNSW app will be optional.
With three alternative options available to consumers, Mr Dominello said the latest innovation was as an easier option to make checking in more efficient.
"In a week of being granted access to the Australian Immunisation Register information we have already begun successfully testing internally ahead of this regional pilot but we also need to ensure we have the right checks and balances in place," Mr Dominello said.
"Integrating the vaccine certificate also helps future proof our state's digital infrastructure in the event that proof of vaccination is ever required again."
Independent Member for Wagga, Dr Joe McGirr has welcomed the trial, stating he was pleased to hear Wagga had been selected.
"As we move towards greater freedoms, this could make it much easier for people to show their vaccination status," Dr McGirr said.
"It's important to make the process as easy as possible for both business operators and customers."
The pilot rollout comes just as the state begins the first stage of reopening.
Wagga mayor Greg Conkey said "these things take time" when asked whether the vaccine certificate trial would have been better introduced sooner.
"It's a complicated app... I understand they've been working on it for quite some time," Mr Conkey said.
"In the meanwhile, there are other avenues for people to prove that their double-vaxxed.
"I certainly look forward to it."
