The concert, which has been staged each year since 2015, enjoyed the participation of choirs from Young, Yass, Boorowa and Canberra, and was eagerly awaited by lovers of vocal music.
Due to the prevailing circumstances, and after consultation with officials of the Young-Boorowa Committee of Can Assist, it was reluctantly decided to cancel the concert, which had been scheduled for Sunday, April 19 this year.
The concert will probably be only one of many public functions to be cancelled throughout the state owing to the coronavirus situation, not least of which has been the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Local Can Assist Committee member Derrick Mason said this week that it appeared the cancellation of Songs of Hope for this year was inevitable, given the current circumstances.
He expressed the thanks of the Committee to the St Patrick's Parish Council, which provides the venue for the concert, to the Boorowa Community Bank for generous sponsorship, and to the members of the choirs and their associates, plus soloists, who supported this annual local event.
Derrick said he had been particularly impressed by the grace and understanding of choir representatives when the cancellation decision was announced.

They had all indicated their disappointment at the cancellation of a concert, which they all found most enjoyable, and expressed expectations that Songs of Hope might return next year.
However, they acknowledged that, owing to the risks associated with public functions, the organisers had no other option than to cancel for this year.
It is hoped that the raffle, which was to be run in association with the concert, might be conducted later in the year, when the situation may have been stabilised.
