Boorowa Australia Day Ambassador Robina Beard, under the expert guidance of Gerard Dunn, put down the first bowl.
Her method needs some attention but the result was accorded a big round of applause.
Robina stated that many of her friends play bowls but she had never played.
Then onto the action.
One game of 12 ends, followed by one of 10.
The winning team was one skippered by Shane Foote, and included President John Crowe and lead Dick Mattress who scored 30.5 points.
In second on 29.5 was Daryl Murphy, Charlie Sorgsepp and veteran barber Bert McMahon.
To round out the places, third was John Leah, David Rowland and John Dymock on 26.
All proceeds of the day went to the bushfire appeal.
At last count the total was over $300.
The hamper raffle was won by another veteran Nev Thurtell.
The club seriously thanks the Boorowa IGA for their assistance with the hamper.
On less weighty matters, 12 hardy souls braved the heat, smoke and dust last Thursday for the normal social bowls.
There was a tie for first between Tim Bonfield and Dave Bromham on 23 points.
Social bowls are on as usual Thursday at 12.30pm at the Boorowa Ex-Services green.
