Each year this service is appreciated by the many people who enjoy an early celebration of the Christmas season.
This custom appears to be English in origin and was developed in the nineteenth century in Anglican churches, many of which have a strong choral tradition.
The 'nine lessons and carols' became an accepted part of the liturgy in many churches of all denominations, and the custom is kept alive today, particularly in English speaking countries.
All local residents will be welcome to attend the service this year as part of the lead-up to the festive season.
This weekend the Anglican church community will be enjoying a visit from the Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn.
The Right Rev Mark Short and his wife Monica will attend the Christmas dinner in St John's Hall on Saturday, November 30 and the following morning the Bishop will preach and celebrate Holy Communion at the 9.30am service in St John's Church.
He is looking forward to meeting as many local people as possible during his weekend visit.
