She has met with community groups, businesses and Council as she continues to doorknock and letterbox across the community.
“There is a strong sense that the long term future of the Boorowa community will depend on resolving water security. This is a top of mind issue for many, especially now the whole state is drought declared,” Dr Stephens said.
“The Boorowa Water Pipeline is Council’s highest priority infrastructure project and I believe it should be funded under the NSW Safe and Secure Water Program which co-funds eligible water and sewerage projects in regional NSW through improvements to public health, water security, environmental outcomes and/or social benefits.”
Securing Boorowa’s water will have positive flow on effects in terms of community confidence and attracting new businesses.
“Local estate agents tell me there is interest from people even from Canberra, keen to make a lifestyle change, but wanting to know that there is good social infrastructure. That includes schools, health and communications infrastructure as well as decent roads for commuters, and opportunities for young people to be involved in the community.”
Dr Stephens will be in Boorowa again on January 24, with a mobile office outside the Boorowa IGA from 10am.
