Cr. Ingram was elected inaugural Mayor of Hilltops Council unopposed in the elections held on September 9, 2017.
The meeting was well supported and Mayor Ingram gave a good introduction on his background, previous business and council experience, the progression through amalgamation, and to becoming the inaugural Mayor of Hilltops.
Mayor Ingram paid respect and admiration for the sterling work of Cr Wendy Tuckerman and spoke openly regarding the demands of bedding in a new council.
Mayor Ingram’s main point for the evening was that a quality, reliable water supply for Boorowa was Hilltops Council’s number one priority.
Funding for the feasibility study was in place and about to begin.
There were some great questions asked from the floor, one in particular from BBC Treasurer Angus Mitchell regarding governance issues within the council and the need to improve efficiencies.
These issues were acknowledged by Mayor Ingram and he mentioned some areas that had already been restructured to improve efficiency.
For Boorowa residents, the Mayor makes himself available on the first Tuesday of each month from 11:30am until 1:30pm at the Boorowa Council Office.
If at any time you would like to have some questions answered or discuss any issues, no appointment required just visit the Boorowa Hilltops Office, first Tuesday of the month.
Currently the BBC, with a selected committee of Boorowa business representatives, is working on preparing a submission that will be made to Hilltops Council regarding the Local Environment Plan (LEP).
Hilltops Council will commence this process in November. The LEP is the process that Hilltops Council undertakes to shape the future of our community, setting out planning guidelines/decisions for the local government areas.
They do this through zoning and development controls, which provide the framework for the way we can use the land. Factors such as expected growth both in residential and the business sectors are taken into account.
The BBC forwarded a co-signed letter to The Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MHLD), outlining the concerns raised by community members, due to of the lack of full-time medical professionals.
Matters raised by Mike Ward President and Angus Mitchell Treasurer, focused on the need of the Boorowa community to have a stable and constant medical support.
The letter requested to see what the MHLD can do to secure nurses and doctors on a permanent basis for the Boorowa area.
A response was received from the MHLD, outlining all the processes currently in place which support the recruitment and potential placement of such medical staff.
Additional conversations were had with senior MHLD staff by telephone, who will be making an effort to come to Boorowa to discuss these issues further.
It is expected that after these conversations we can get back to the Boorowa community with our next steps.
