A staff member from Stovehaven Furniture, located next to the skatepark, said children as young as six have been jumping the fence of the business, taking timber from the yard and using it to damage fences and equipment.
“It's a bit out of hand, they have no regard for others’ property,” they said.
They said incidents of trespassing and fence damage have increased over the past month and there are concerns for the children’s safety in the yard.
“It shouldn’t be up to us to police them. The parents need to have some responsibility.”
Local police have echoed these concerns, asking residents to come forward with any information.
“We are always interested in hearing any information that might assist in investigating,” they said.
“We also urge parents to speak to their children and tell them to take responsibility for their actions.”
Hilltops Mayor, Councillor Brian Ingram said both police and council are investigating.
"It has been an issue several times since the skate park opened,” Mayor Ingram said.
Mayor Ingram said there are plans in place to upgrade the skatepark however those plans may change due to the vandalism.
“It is a shame that this has happened, we did receive a government grant for upgrades, Council will have to reconsider if this behaviour continues,” Mayor Ingram said.
He said a reward is on offer for any information that assists in catching those responsible.
“I am very disappointed that these things are happening in our community,” he said.
“I am offering a $500 reward for any information that leads to the perpetrators being caught.”
