I had a very busy weekend in Melbourne watching the Irish beat the Wallabies at AAMI park and didn’t get around to writing an article about the Goldies great win against Batemans Bay down in the Bay.
Well I think it was Batemans Bay. Not really sure.
Again like last weekend, I didn’t get to the Goldies home game against Bungendore on Ladies’ Day as I was in Sydney watching the Irish beating the Wallabies again and taking away the series.
Great footy, great Irish team, great country and great people.
I know people aren’t going to be happy about me gloating about the Irish winning but those unhappy people need to remind themselves of their own surnames.
I am 100 per cent confident these unhappy people will be the McGraths, Corcorans, Corkhills, Ryans or Kellys and we all know where you came from!!!!!
The boys took on the Mudchooks last Saturday at the Showgrounds on Ladies’ Day and all money raised was being donated to the McGrath Foundation for women’s breast cancer.
Such a wonderful cause and charity.
The Goldies went into the game confident with a few wins under their belt since they played Mudchooks earlier in the season.
They knew they have improved a lot and it would be a much closer game and that it was in the earlier round.
The game started with two really quick tries by the Goldies.
Great team tries finished off by Greggers and Brad.
The game went back and forth with the Goldies letting the Mudchooks in which they backed up with another quick try.
Greggers scored his second try to take the game to 17-7 at half time.
The Mudchooks scored first after the break twice to take the lead at 21-17.
The Goldies fought back hard with a great rolling maul pushover try to Flemo then with more pressure, Brendan McGrath charged down a kick to take the Goldies to a 27-21 lead with two minutes to go.
The Mudchooks went on the attack and the Goldies forced a turnover and scrum.
Unfortunately the Mudchooks got a tighthead from the scrum to turn it over and work down for a try and a goal after the bell to steal the game in the death 28-27.
A very tough result to swallow.
However, like tough Goldies of old and new they parked the game at the Showgrounds and went to the Top Pub where an auction was held.
The items varied from a mystery box to hats to stubby holders to helicopters to photos of our beautiful captain, framed.
The money is still being counted but one person said that it will probably be around the $7,000 mark.
This is simply incredible for a small country town with a country footy team to raise this money.
Club President Justin Trump said, “This year’s fundraising efforts were in favour of The McGrath Foundation, a wonderful organisation supporting families suffering the effects of breast cancer”.
“Due to the dedication and work of the Rugby Club and the profound generosity of the Boorowa Community we were able to raise $7,500 for the organisation. A truly significant effort for our little community! Particular thanks to Jo-Anne Rowley and Susie Fagan for all their work in the lead up to, and on the day.”

Players’ player went to Brenden McGrath. Chicks’ went to Mully but in a recount, it was revealed that election fraud occurred and Brendan McGrath was the actual winner.
That has to be bulltit. Has anyone seen the condition Mully has been in recently? There is no way he didn’t win it. I wasn’t there but I bet everything I have that Mully won it with flying colours.
