We are short and tall, fat and skinny, young and old, able bodied and less able bodied.
Differences aside we share a common passion for the shooting sports.
Side by side we compete, grandfathers and grandchildren, Australian representatives, and people who just come to the club on a Tuesday afternoon for a few shots.
Clay Target shooting is one of the most inclusive sports around.
Many people shoot competitively, as every weekend there are shoots being conducted around the state, and around the country.
A great number shoot at their local club socially until they feel like trying their luck at a competition shoot.
Shooters are graded by their ability.
This provides equity of competition.
New Shooters begin at C grade and can reach the dizzy heights of AA grade with training and commitment (A little natural talent can be helpful too).
Boorowa Gun Club is a Down the Line Trap shooting club.
The Clay Targets are launched from the Trap House and travel away from the shooter at about 40km per hour giving the average shooter about 3 -4 seconds to track the target, fire at the target, and hopefully break the target thus scoring a point (sorry no score for near misses!).
The Boorowa Gun Club has been part of the local community for many years.
The Club has come a long way in recent months with many upgrades to the Clubs facilities.
This in turn has brought benefits both to the local community from increased visitors to the area, and socially as a sporting venue for local people.
Club Patron Wally Merriman has generously made the land available for the clubs use to benefit the wider community.
The committee has achieved major upgrades to the Club thanks to the kind assistance of Hilltops council, Sport and Recreation NSW and The Bendigo Bank.
The Club is in the final stages of major renovations including rebuilt Trap Houses and layouts, a new spacious Clubhouse and new toilet amenities including Disabled Toilets.
The Club hopes to gain the assistance of local government in the near future to create car parking and drainage on the roadside to allow better access for our disabled competitors in particular.
The Boorowa Gun Club conducts regular monthly competitions.
Our most recent meet held on Saturday, April 28 attracted 75 competitors with people travelling from as far away as Sydney, Bega and Toowoomba.
This event was greatly enjoyed by all those that attended and we particularly appreciate the support of the Campbell family, paying tribute to the late George Campbell, during this Anzac Day remembrance period.
If you are interested in having a go at Clay Target Shooting you will not need a firearms licence to give it a try.
Approved shooting Ranges fully supervise people interested in trying the sport and can assist you if you wish to take up the sport in the future.
Why not come up to the club on a Tuesday night or see the advertisement on this page for our upcoming try Shooting event.
The Come and Try Day on May 12, 2018. Please note Photo Id is required and bookings are essential for the Come and Try day.
