The Goldie’s last Saturday were looking for their first five wins from five since Captain Cook’s uncle Mumbles Cook was captain of the side, but sadly it wasn’t to be, going down to Harden in a trial game.

The Goldies struggled for the first ten minutes for possession however after finally getting some ball they made it count, once again Phil Maine showing his electric pace and step to leave the Harden boys stunned.
Phil was pleased to inform me that he got the trifecta (a try, sin-binned and rip in his jersey). Good on ya Philly Boy, keep it up.
The Goldies were missing Brad Rose but the ever-reliable Angus Merriman stepped into the five eight role to steer the boys around and did a fine wool job.
Another massive game from Tim Gregory at the back of the scrum with some rampaging runs, however his evening was cut short with a nasty cut to his forehead that required 17 stitches, is staples and four tubs of glue. However he is confident his modelling career with Pedigree isn’t over.
The scrum was under pressure early on but like last week the piggies got into a their rhythm and handled the Harden boys pretty well in the second half. The lineout was also very effective, our club president, Justin Trumpy Fleming stealing one of Harden’s throws.
Leading 12-8 just before half time Harden looked certain to score in the corners however with Mark Poplin and Tommy Simson double teamed to make a monster try saving tackle.
The first half was very shaky with far too many knock ons, miracle passes but they were still leading and hopeful if they put in a big second half display they could come away with the win.
This week’s notable mention goes to Jeremy something, no one seems sure of his second name only that he works for Wal.
Sometimes a loss can is as good as a win.

Most weeks you don’t even notice Jeremy on the paddock as he is always stuck in a ruck doing the dirty work but for the first time ever in his Goldies careers he made a massive break from two meters out and crossed the line. For the record his name is supposedly Jeremy Dreverman.
When all said and done the Goldies had a very good hit out against a very solid team. We didn’t get the win but it was a good reality check and measure of where we are at mid-way through season.
Sometimes a loss can is as good as a win. This weekend we have a bye. However, the Boorowa Races are on and the boys will have a tent set up so please come across for a beer and a bit to eat.
Next game is away to Crookwell on May 13. This week’s points went too: Mully. Mully got all the points.
Finally, I was not at the game. The Goldies didn’t get a win, they got well beaten by a strong Harden Team.
The races are not on this weekend so please don’t be disappointed if you arrive at the racecourse on Saturday and then is no one there.
Next game is against Gungahlan at home on April 7. First game of the competition.
