The club’s connection with Tanzania started with contributions to the school of St. Jude’s, a project of Rotary on a national level.
One of Boorowa’s local girls, Elizabeth Walsh shared her experience working at St Jude at a Rotary meeting, which inspired the club to get further involved in her new project in Arusha, a maternity hospital.
The night included a lesson in Swahili, learning of the anthem, a video tour through the Tanzanian scenery and a summary of Rotary’s activities in Tanzania.
The highlight, however, was a video link conversation with Elizabeth.
She entertained the guests, shared her passion for the hospital, her shopping experiences and her most embarrassing moments!
Stephen Meere, the Rotary club’s president, announced to Elizabeth that the club pledge to contribute $2000 to the hospital.
All guests thoroughly enjoyed the food from the Tanzanian menu and rated the evening as outstanding.
The club is satisfied that the message of our local girl, contributing to the development of an African country, was spread wide and clear.
