Boorowa’s own world record holding weightlifter Les Winters has taken out the Senior Sportsperson of the Year Award for 2017 at the Boorowa Australia Day Ceremony last Friday.

Les, who has broken four world records in his sport, gained the top honour in a close field which was made up of a number of remarkable people, including Ebony Tyrell, Mark Poplin and Josh Burns.
Les’s foray into the sport of weightlifting began in October 2016 and most recently, he competed at the Global Power-Lifting Committee National Titles.
Junior Sportsperson of the Year 2017 went to young Cooper Cross for his efforts in local rugby league.
He was nominated privately and by Boorowa Junior Rugby League.
The awards continued to stay in the family, with Ella Cross winning Junior Sportsperson of the Year 2017 – 12 Years and Under.
Ella was nominated by St Joseph’s Primary School and Boorowa/Young Junior Cricket Clubs.
Clubperson of the Year 2017 also went to a Cross, Shane Cross, who was nominated by Boorowa Junior Rugby League.
Cooper, Ella and Shane’s awards were accepted by Gail Arabin and presented by Susie Elelman AM at the ceremony.
Sporting Team of the Year went to Boorowa Central Open Boys Touch Team nominated by Boorowa Central School.
