Betty will be in Young on Thursday, October 19 at Carrington Park, TAFE Car Park from 11am till 3pm and again on Friday, October 20 at the BIG W Car Park, Boorowa Street from 10am till 2pm.
Betty is an initiative of the Asbestos Education Committee – in partnership with the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute (ADRI) – and the visit to Young is part of a 4,000-kilometre tour of NSW, VIC and TAS.
Betty and her dedicated crew will educate residents about what to do to identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and Naturally Occurring Asbestos (NOA), and how to manage asbestos safely.
Betty is the size of a caravan and is Australia’s only community education tool that demonstrates the multiple locations where asbestos might be found in and around homes.
According to the Asbestos Education Committee, asbestos can still be found in one third of homes built or renovated before 1987 including brick, weatherboard, fibro or clad homes.
During her extensive 46-day tour, Betty will reach 36 communities to increase awareness of the dangers of asbestos.
