With Term 3 of the school year now under way, I thought it might be timely to update those who have been away during the holidays, of a few things they may have missed in relation to water, waste and a new way to wind-down at the end of the week.

Larger than normal water metre readings can catch people by surprise and it’s often due to undetected leakages on their property.
While Council has no obligation to adjust water accounts affected by leakages in private plumbing, Council understands this kind of unexpected cost can be difficult to manage, and in some circumstances, will consider staged payment requests.
Council currently has on display a draft policy outlining guidelines for handling such requests and I encourage those interested in reading the draft policy to head to Council’s website for a copy.
In terms of waste, don’t forget the Household Chemical CleanOut is scheduled for our area at the end of the week (Boorowa and Harden on Friday, Young on Saturday). The CleanOut is a good opportunity to get rid of potentially dangerous waste in a safe and responsible way. The service is free-of-charge and allows households to dispose of items such as paints, car batteries, gas bottles and pesticides. Head to www.cleanout.com.au for details.
And finally, I’d like to congratulate the Young branch of the Hilltops Library Service for the new ‘Take 5 on Fridays’ musical sessions.
The initiative allows talented local musicians the chance to perform their material in front of a live audience while also providing residents and visitors with the opportunity to enjoy music over lunch (12.30-1.30pm, every Friday); another great example of the many and varied experiences available throughout our impressive region.
