This years’ Australia Day Ambassador, Emma Rossi, boasts an impressive history of working in the media industry and is currently one of the leading media strategists for the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
Having been a reporter and presenter for both the Nine and Seven networks on shows like Sydney Weekender, Sunday Sunrise and the Today Show, as well as presenting Sky News Australia, Ms Rossi said she loved her trips to the bush.
“I am honored and, in fact, requested to visit Hilltops Council. It is not my first visit to Boorowa and hopefully not my last,” she said.
“I’ve been visiting great mates in Binalong since I was a teenager, and one of my first ‘dates’ was to the Burrangong Picnic Races.”
“As a television reporter and producer for nearly 20 years I most loved my trips to the bush.”
Ms Rossi said she was looking forward to meeting all the Boorowa residents at this year’s celebrations.
“How fantastic that you’ve had a local paper since 1874. I’m really looking forward to the Australia Day Awards at the Recreation Park because it’s an insight into what makes the Boorowa community special,” she said.
“I’m hoping to have a dip in the newly refurbished pool and am brushing up on ballads and yarn spinning.”
Ms Rossi was glad that this year’s Australia Day theme was so inclusive.
“The theme of this Australia Day “Everyone, everywhere” is a great one because it’s so inclusive,” she said.
“What does ‘everyone, everywhere’ mean to you? For me, it’s inclusiveness, connectness and gratitude.”
“They say that gratitude is close to grace. And I feel blessed to be Australian. We are indeed the lucky country.”
“Please come and say Hi during my visit and I’d love to hear what what “Everyone, Everywhere” means to you,” she said.
Ms Rossi’s media work has also led her to work with women suffering from domestic violence saying it was some of her proudest work.
“I’m most proud of the work I have done around empowering women,” she said.
“I am assisting in setting up a refuge for women and children seeking refuge from Domestic Violence and have also cycled around Cambodia to buy women and girls out of sex slavery.”
The Boorowa Australian Day celebrations kick off from 8am with breakfast in the park before the official ceremonies at 9.30am.
