There is so much in the news of late concerning domestic violence with talk back radio being almost swamped with opinion. Boorowa’s Australia Day Ambassador, Emma Rossi, works to empower women involving herself in charities supporting women and girls caught up in domestic violence situations.

One very valid point must be addressed, and that is men are not the only perpetrators.
I feel one talk back caller really nailed the situation on the head (probably not the best analogy to use when discussing this issue) when she suggested we drop the domestic reference and call it for what it is – straight out, plain and simple, VIOLENCE.

Speaking of Emma Rossi, I hope many of you turn up in the park next Thursday to welcome Emma and celebrate Australia Day. Breakfast is available from 8.00am with the formal proceedings getting under way at 9.30am.
A great community day at which we celebrate all good things about Australia and acknowledge some of Boorowa’s finest.

In the criminal justice system based on twelve individuals who are not smart enough to get out of jury duty, here is a jury to be proud of……..
A defendant was on trial for murder with strong evidence indicating guilt, but there was no corpse. The defence lawyer, knowing his client would probably be convicted, resorted to a trick.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have a surprise for you,” the lawyer said as he looked at his watch, “within one minute, the person presumed dead in this case will walk into this courtroom.”
He looked toward the courtroom door. The jurors all looked on eagerly. A minute passed. Nothing happened.
Finally the lawyer said, “Actually, I made up the previous statement, but you all looked on in anticipation, I therefore put it to you that you have reasonable doubt as to whether anyone was killed at all. I insist that you return a verdict of not guilty.”
The jury retired to deliberate to only return a few minutes later to pronounce a verdict of GUILTY!
“But how/” inquired the lawyer. “You must have some doubt, I saw you all stare at the door. The jury foreman replied, “YES, WE DID LOOK, BUT YOUR CLIENT DIDN’T.”

Did you know that “Dammit I’m Mad” spelled backwards is “Dammit I’m Mad.”

A former local shearers’ cook certainly knew how to pull the wool over the eyes of those hardworking shearers and shed hands when it came to pleasing their palate.
Known for putting on a good spread, he was particularly appreciated for his cakes and puddings, appreciated to the extent shearers often asked for a recipe to take home to their wife. The standard response was he couldn’t disclose it as it was one of his father’s secret recipes.
Now here’s the truth – they all came from a packet mix.
There’s some sort of message there, but then again, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Parliamentary entitlement, spending of the tax payers’ dollar, abuse of the system, etc has been a hot topic of late. Politicians need to take a step back and take in what they represent and who they represent and do what is best, not for them, but the people, their constituents.
Maybe they could heed these words:
“Every actual state is corrupt. Good men must not obey the laws too well.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
