Late on the evening of Friday, July 22, the area between Frogmore and Wyangala received between 45-100mm of rain with the majority of it falling between the Reids Flat Road and Darbys Falls Road.

The heavy rainfall and high winds have caused serious flooding across roadways.

A large number of fallen branches and trees were removed by workers from the Boorowa Depot over the weekend.

The majority of roads affected have suffered extensive culvert damage which will now need to be inspected and prioritised in line with Council’s work schedule.

In the Harden area, up to 70 mm of rain fell in a twenty-minute period during one particularly damaging storm causing unsealed wash, water over sealed roads, and wash debris blocking stormwater culverts over a combined 50 km area of roads.

Harden staff have cleared approximately 50 trees and branches over the weekend following the severe winds experienced during the cold front that passed.

In the Young area, the A41 Olympic Highway was closed at Bendick Murrell due to fallen power lines.

Motorists between Cowra and Young were diverted via Grenfell.

Across the entire Hilltops Council area, staff are going through the process of identifying the extent of the damage that has occurred on the road network to determine and prioritise the work that will need to be done to restore the network to a suitable condition.

Council would like to advise road users to be cautious, not to drive through flood waters and ensure that they drive to the current conditions.

A motorist who attempted to drive through flood waters on Tarrants Gap Road was rescued last weekend.
