A win was critical for both sides to keep them in the hunt for finals football. As a result the game was filled with enthusiasm and played to a high standard. Unfortunately for Boorowa, momentary lapses in concentration resulted in too many points being leaked in short periods of time.
Boorowa lost 29 - 48. The game started well for the tigers as they put together several phases in a row to score early. Boorowa was not deterred as they drew great confidence out of their communication in defence. Boorowa was quick to work their way up the field and earn a penalty right in front of the posts.
Boorowa successfully kicked the goal and from that point in time the scorers were working at a frantic pace.
Highlight of the first half was seeing Damien Harton make a break up the field, then offload to Matt Batt who showed great pace to outrun the tigers players and score. The score at half time was 8 - 17.
Boorowa was slow out of the blocks in the second half. the tigers quickly scored two more tries and stretched their lead to 21. Boorowa appeared down and out to spectators, however the Goldie's always have a never say die attitude and began mounting a comeback.
The comeback was led by boorowa's tight five who did not loose a scrum for the last 30 minutes of the game. Coach Ben Johnson said 'it was the best scrummaging display he has seen since Brad smith, Matt Corkhill and Mick Corkhill used to pack down together'.
This increased possession allowed Boorowa to score consecutive tries through a double to captain Dane Rowley, one to Shaun Dwyer and one to Peter Sykes. At this point in time the game was up for grabs.
Unfortunately the Tigers scored a couple of tries against the run of play to win the match. Points were as follows: Shane friend (1 point), Dane rowley (2 points), Matt batt (3 points).
Next weekend Boorowa plays Broulee at home for the first time in history.
