It was an excellent day of rugby league. I would like to thank the parents and supporters that helped out on the day and in the days leading up to it. There are too many to mention but you know who you are.
A big thankyou to the helpers who don't have children playing rugby League but give up their time to Coach, Referee, time keep, set up, pack up etc.
The canteen was a huge success thanks to Leah and her handy helper Marnie Halls, and although other parents helped out as well we will need all hands on deck next home game!
A huge thank you to our sponsors Courthouse Hotel, Boorowa Tyre Service, Stonehaven Furniture and Building Supplies, Moppity Meats, Boorowa Bobcat and Tipper Hire, Crossbuild, Westpac instore, Gregory and Mccarthy Accountants.
Under 6s
What a fantastic start to the season and to their football careers generally the Stonehaven Furniture Under 6s have had. We have scored some tries, saved some tries with great tackling and made some hard runs in attack. Alice Dymock made her debut last weekend and she hit the ground running with the first run of the game only to be tackled by a tough Cootamundra opponent. Alice went on to make a few solid tackles of her own though. Lachlan Tarrant, also on debut scored two brilliant run away tries and tackled consistently well throughout the game. Will Kelly found his feet this week and is sure to be a try scoring machine along with Sonny Dunlop who has already shown he can score points. George and Lara Taylor both had great games in front of their excited band of supporters. Preston Harris definitely has the legs for some speedy footwork with the coach even having trouble running him down. No football for us next weekend, we will be proudly marching instead but look forward to our third game of the season in Harden the following one.
Under 8s
The Boorowa under 8s took on Cootamundra last Saturday in a top class game only letting the game get away from them late in the second half. Harry Dymock started of strong with a try early in the game while Archie Gay and Jacobe Friend were strong in both attack and defense, both scoring tries. On debut Eliza Taylor made a 50 dash down the side line only to be cut down metres from the line, as usual the pye twins were very energic and gave the opposition plenty of headache's, Delilah Cross, James Webster and Isabella Piper gave good service from dummy half and all made some good mtrs up the middle.
Under 9s
The mighty Boorowa Bushrangers under 9s continued on their winning way last Saturday with a thumping victory over the Coota bulldogs at Boorowa. The 'big four' were once again in outstanding form and completely dominated the opposition and were joined by Josh Craig, who was in sizzling form in his first game for the season. Girl power was also on display with Grace Taylor, Steph Piper, Ella Cross and Lily Cassells all having strong games. 'Speedhump' Ned Flick was strong again, controlling the middle of the ruck. The future Kangaroos have a break this Saturday before taking on arch rivals young the following week.
Under 10s
The under 10s boys faced Coota in another close game for the season despite going down 16 points to 12 all the boys played well. Tries were scored by Rory McGrath and Hamish Minehan- converted by Hugh squire-Wilson with Hamish converting his own try. Special mention to Fergus Mullen whose defence was amazing - with even the ref commenting on his tackling! Under 10s League Tag Saturdays game saw the girls up against Cootamundra. It's the girls second game for the year and for some of them it's their second game ever. The girls are already improving, which is fantastic to see! Grace Taylor played very well scoring two tries with Ella Cross converting one of the tries, to take us to a close win of 10-6. Leila Cayfe had some great runs in attack, and all of the girls played well in defense especially Imogen Pye and Ella Cross. Lily Cassells and Elle McIntosh also played well in both attack and defense. Keep up the great work girls, you all are doing a great job and enjoy the game!
Under 11s
The Boorowa/Harden Caltex U11s Junior League team had their first home game of the season on Saturday against Cootamundra. Down on troops again due to the school holidays and knowing Coota was the team that held them from the semi's last year, the available boys were ready to stand up and give their all. Luke Dean was strong upfront with some barn storming hit ups getting us on the front foot. Will Fahey, Patrick Davis and Beau Abnet were tireless in defence against the much, (emphasis on MUCH) larger Coota side, but their attack was equally impressive with a long range try from Will Fahey and great service and the odd scoot from Beau and Patrick. Cooper Cross played a huge role in the win scoring three tries, setting up two more and saving tries at the other end with great defence. Josh Flick, Jack Innes, Riley Arabin, Angus Piper, Richard Kelly and Tom Wales couldn't put a foot wrong and with more opportunity in the next few games could prove to be pivotal in the success of the team this season. Tully Potts is proving to be very versatile, playing centre and front row when needed. It's great to see Elden Rowen make a comeback to league, a few games under his belt will help settle the nerves and get him back into the swing of things. Final score 34-28.
Under 12s
The under 12s played a wonderful game of footy, and although going down 12-10 they should hold their heads very high. A bit of confusion saw the boys playing with 11 against Coota's 13 for 3 4 s of the game, who knows what the outcome would have been if they were 13 on 13 the whole game. Great game by Matt Canellis scoring two tries, Dugald Mullen with great line speed, James Collins defence out wide was solid. Tobias Piper was dangerous in attack but was devastating in defence having a standout game.
Under 13s league tag
Under 13LT played a fabulous game on Saturday at boorowa with two tries scored by Amanda Noakes and converted her own goal, Mackella Pye scored two tries taking the score to 18 to 4. Boorowa/Harden were leading after half time, Coota scored to quick tries but mistake the try line and place the ball 10 metres short. Not long after that Tykieta Leitner scored, then Boorowa got in taking the score to 22 to 8 Boorowa/Harden had a win. All the girls had a great game.
Under 15s
After a disastrous start to the season the Boorowa/Harden under 15s took on the undefeated premiership favourite Cootamundra at home last week, with many tipping another record defeat. However the local boys rallied in front of their home crowd to put up very spirited display. The visitors were surprised with the enthusiasm of the locals and were under pressure, leading only 16-10 shortly before the break. Unfortunately the bushrangers concentration lapsed in the periods just before and after halftime, which allowed the bulldogs to skip away. Jayden cutting was outstanding, working himself to a standstill and was rewarded with a try and set up another for the flying Lleyton Allison. Brady Halls bounced back from a shocker last week, really enjoying being moved into the middle where his strong defence and courageous running were a real highlight. Paddy Fahey proved to be an inspirational leader constantly looking dangerous in attack and managing to get under their skins in defence. The improvement from week one was amazing and a continuation of this should see the locals prove too strong for young in two weeks,in what should be a cracking game.
Boorowa/Harden under 16s League Tag
On Saturday the girls braved the overhead storm to take on Cootamundra. With a few girls away on other commitments and a few new comers to the team preparations were a little scratchy. Although the girls didn't seem phased and they continued to defend like an NRL team. The girls were unlucky to concede two unlucky tries but showed level heads and this seen Rachael Corkery slide over from dummy half and score our first points for the year. Down 12-4 at half time the girls discussed their lack of communication and addressed tr issue early in the second half which lead to Rachael Corkery's second try. Which was converted by Tracey Noakes. Scores at 12-10 the game was tight. Some good leadership from captain Lily Corkhill urged the girls to pick up the tempo. Ellie McCarthy obliged and played well in her first game of the season. Two runaway tries that were both converted seen the final score of 26-10. No game this Anzac weekend but training in Boorowa on Thursday and don't forget to bring a jumper.
