The play, set on a Mediterranean island in the 1940’s, encouraged students to examine village life at the time, as well as the implications of impending threats by advancing army.
The themes of resilience, love and enjoyment of life were all explored and represented by the young actors, dancers and singers.
The excellent performances by the students were enjoyed both by parents, ex-students and friends alike. Some members of the audience travelled long distances to enjoy one of the performances that were staged over three nights.
Every student in the school had a part to play, with many speaking parts performed by the older students. Mrs Merriman, writer and director, was amazed at the standard and skill of all the actors, who learned many lines and performed with such professionalism.
“The production time was only eight weeks so everyone really took an active role and were keen to do their best,” Mrs Merriman said.
“ It really was a team effort with teachers, parents and community members helping to make the play a success. It is a wonderful example of a few people creating a special event for the enjoyment of many. A big thank you to everyone.”
