The focus of their Australian tour was to learn about the Australian wool industry and travel back to the source of the natural fibre they work with.
During their trip, the Biella Masters students travelled to Boorowa to visit Roaring Rock, David Gay's property with Ruth Flick from Landmark.
Most of the students had not encountered shearing before and they appreciated the time spent explaining the processes involved in the harvesting and classing operations.
Supported by AWI, the students are interested in careers in the textile industry and by visiting a working Merino farm they were able to get a deeper understanding of the role of the Australian wool industry on the international stage.
Before coming to Australia the group spent one week in China learning about textile manufacturing, as well as one week in Japan focusing on the retail sector.
