Both teams had to play five games in very cold and extremely windy conditions against teams from Queanbeyan (Karabar) High School, Goulburn (Mulwaree, and Goulburn ) High schools, and the girls also played a team from Canberra.
The girls tried very hard and played well, learning a lot about playing touch over their five games.
This is very much a development team with lots of new players and they really enjoyed their day of touch.
Unfortunately they were defeated in all their games but they were a pleasure to coach on the day.
Team members are Grace Gay, Tamelia Mitchell, Tiffany Campbell, Sammy Saunders, Kiara Shean, Jade Blomfield, Casey Watt, Paris Corcoran, Larissa Corcoran, Bianca Roach and Jess Croker.
The boys team played Mulwaree High 1 in their first game and played exception touch to come away with a dominant 6-3 victory.
Going into their second game of the day they may have been a little over confident as they came up against the form team of the day in Karabar High 1 and went down in a very close game 2-1.
Next up they played Mulwaree High 2 in a very one sided affair Boorowa came away 10-1 victors.
The next match saw the over confident Goulburn High team come crashing back to earth after a stunning Boorowa victory of 4-1, by this stage there were a few teams asking who is Boorowa Central School, how big is it and why are they so good at touch?
Next game saw the last of the preliminary rounds against Karabar 2 which the boys won easily running away with a 9-1 victory, setting up a possible rematch with Karabar 1 in the finals.
The semi final was against Mulwaree 1 who played well but couldn’t match the Boorowa boys team as they again came away victors 6-2, in the other semi Karabar 1 defeated Goulburn High to make the rematch a reality.
Going into this grand final game the boys were extremely focused aware of the oppositions strength, they played their own game never getting flustered in what was a stressful game and at full time the scores were locked at 3-3 meaning a drop off would be necessary to find the winner.
Both teams returned to the field this time with only five players each and after each minute another player drops off until a touch down is made, this continued until there were only three players left on each team, the three remaining players play until a touch down is made.
This seemed to go for ever before Boorowa made a great move getting outside the defence to score the winning touch down to take out the day.
The boys played exceptional touch as a great team with all members playing well and most importantly as a united team. Team members, Jack Hinds, Craig Mason, Nick Stevens, Patrick Johnson, Jayden Cutting, Caleb Collier, Max Gay, Brady Halls, Brock Ritchie, Austin Power and Chandler Power.
This team now goes on to represent Boorowa Central School at the state finals in the All School Competition in Bathurst next term, well done to both teams as they were an absolute pleasure to take away.
