These teachers have been trained in this research-based kindergarten intervention, targeting text reading and writing by Mrs Angie Gay who is an L3 regional Trainer for the Illawarra and South-East Region in 2011.
This group of teachers have met every second Friday for the year, at Boorowa Central School, to analyse data and classroom practise.
As part of their training they have also had school visits from Mrs Gay to then ensure that their classroom practise is reflecting the explicit future needs of students.
Principals from these participating schools have simply been blown away by the outstanding progress that has been made by Kindergarten students participating in this intervention.
A statewide average for all students is to be reading fluently between a text level of 5-8 by the end of Kindergarten.
In 2011 at Boorowa Central School all 21 Kindergarten students have moved beyond this benchmark. The results in writing and comprehension are just as remarkable.
In 2012 Mrs Angie Gay will continue to facilitate L3-Language, Learning and Literacy to Kindergarten Teachers throughout the Region.
The teachers and schools that have trained in 2011 will continue to implement the Kindergarten literacy intervention, as well as collect data on these students as they move in to year 1 to ensure these students are well and truly on track with their Literacy learning by the time they reach Year 3.
Well done to all participating schools and students on such fabulous results in 2011.
