Don was born into a musical family, his father Bill Burrows played the piano and trumpet while mother Ivy sang and also played the piano.
Both Dad and Mum had their own band and played in dances at the Boorowa Mechanics Institute, Pudman Street and the Town Irish Guild Hall, Marsden Street, as well as dances at Murringo and Rye Park.
Bill Burrows was also a member of the town band under conductor Mr Albert Bryce.
The Burrows family resided at a home in Park Street, next to Bill Marion's Iron Monger/Rural Iron Fabrication Assembly Factory.
Bill was a baker and he worked at Ryan's Bakery in Pudman Street.
In 1933, Bill and Ivy, with their very young son Don moved to Bondi in Sydney, purchasing his own bakery, thus Don grew up and attended school in the Eastern Suburbs.
Don Burrows, through his music, became very good friends with the second one of the famous international musicians born in Boorowa trio, namely James Morrison.
A trumpeter, James resided in Farm Street and attended Boorowa Central School.
Don and James entertained together on the world stage as well as in Australia.
The third of the musical trio born in Boorowa was renowned music genius and pianist Eric Bryce, who met up with Don Burrows at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and both their names are on the honour roll.

Thus Eric composed many of Don Burrows' musical items, as well as for the ABC and Eric was offed a professor position at Adelaide University, where he lived his final years.
Eric Bryce resided with his family in Brial Street, and like James Morrison, attended the Central School.
But Eric credits his success with music to Catholic Nun, Sister Winfered SJ, his very first tutor at St Joseph's Convent School.
Boorowa should be proud of their world renowned musical sons.
