Fear on the Frontline: Boorowa celebrates International Women’s Day

The event will be celebrated on Sunday, March 11, from 9am – 4pm (registration from 9am-9.45am) at the Boorowa Ex-Services Club.

We have put together a full day’s program not to be missed, the theme being “Fear on the Frontline”.

Keynote speakers include:

Psychologist, Matchmaker, Relationship Mentor, Author, Futurist, Media Personality

Since 1976, Yvonne has been recognized in Australia and abroad for the work of her consultancy for discerning singles seeking a partner since 1976.

In 2000 she was profiled by BRW as one of Australia’s leading innovators.  

Author and contributor to several publications on social issues, Yvonne is also a public speaker and media commentator.

Given her desire to reach as wide an audience as she can to share her insights relevant to living and loving today.

Yvonne is an expert contributor to the US site yourtango.com.

Currently she is also preparing to launch her own international online television channel.  

Media Guru and Advocate for Women’s Empowerment

Emma Rossi spent nearly two decades reporting for news and current affairs on national television, a job that took her overseas as a foreign correspondent, across Australia as a Reporter, and into the lounge rooms across the world as a News Presenter.

Since 2011 Emma has been the public face of the Federal Government’s telecommunications and media regulator.

She is also a regular spokesperson for Children’s e-safety and security.

Emma is well regarded for her philanthropic pursuits mentoring and developing people. 

She has been an Australia Day Ambassador for NSW Premier and Cabinet since 2013, including in Boorowa in 2017, and cycled with her daughter across Cambodia to buy women and girls out of sex slavery.

Emma has taken a leadership role in improving online safety for Australian women fleeing domestic violence.

Currently a Board Director, Emma was instrumental in the establishment of Mary’s House, a refuge in Sydney for women and children. 

Emma is also a Board Director of Active Farmers, a group fitness organisation that has a profound positive impact on rural physical, community and mental health outcomes.  

Emma will touch on women at work, fear, and why women do not report harassing behavior at work.

Why they might be afraid to stick their head above the parapet (fear of judgement) or fear of leaving an abusive partner, or even to exercise.

"Insanity is defined as - the state of being seriously mentally ill. The term mental illness is associated with words such as madness, instability, lunacy and irrationality.”

Rachael Stevens was told as a young person that she fit this criteria.

Diagnosed with anorexia at age 15, she survived a series of psychiatric admissions for mental health issues.

Today she speaks honestly and critically about her personal experience of being treated not as a person, but as a problem to be solved.

Challenging the stereotypes and assumptions surrounding mental illness Rachael shares her story throughout Australia, engaging and inspiring audiences to treat people with compassion, respect and dignity.

By humanising the issues of mental health, suicide prevention and psychiatric treatment her talks provide a compelling alternate perspective that is challenging and relevant, possessing the richness of insights derived from lived experience.

In 2014 Rachael published her story as a novel “The Skeleton Diaries”.

Her book has inspired countless people suffering and caring for those battling eating disorders.

For her work inspiring hope in the lives of Australians, Rachael was an ACT Finalist for the 2017 Young Australian of the Year Award.

In 2016 she won the ACT Young Woman of the Year Award.  

In conjunction with her book, Rachael partners with Life Choices Foundation to reach high schools students around Australia.

Articulately and courageously speaking to students about how their future does not have to be negatively defined by their past.

Rachael is also currently studying her Masters in Culture, Health and Medicine at The Australian National University.

Blending her life experiences with a deep and insightful understanding of the nature of health, sickness and healing - Rachael certainty has a unique, valuable and deeply impacting story to tell. "

Ramble Om Yoga

Dipping a toe into the ocean that is the discussion of Mental Health, Claire Beath, a young Boorowa local, will discuss her personal battles with mental health and her attempts to navigate her way through early adulthood. 

Claire will touch on the fears she felt in coping with personal struggles, not “doing it right” in life, and other mountains she has climbed (both literally and metaphorically).  

Claire hopes to provide a better understanding of mental health struggles and pressures that young adults, especially young women, feel in this day and age in an open and honest way.  

She hopes to inspire others to find that self-love and care again, spread knowledge on different methods of self care, and to encourage you to say “yes” to whatever you are finding excuses to say “no” to.

We are encouraging Boorowa women to book early as the event has attracted strong interest from other towns.

Our aim is to have women leaving the day feeling inspired, reinvigorated, and in touch with their inner beings.

An opportunity to network with other likeminded woman enhancing life skills.

Given the content we are encouraging any of the ladies who may like to invite their daughters to accompany them on this day.  

There will also be an opportunity for women to tell us personally about the inspiring women in their lives.
