Travelling to Young one can’t but be aware of the heavy patching work on the road between the old shire boundary and Murringo.
The road surface to my simple observation was in far better condition than that of the road from the former shire boundary back to the Cowra Road turnoff, which can only be termed disgraceful.
The cynicism comes in when people say Young is looking after their own and as for the rest … tough.
Hopefully funding for the current section under repair comes from a former Young Council allocation and the money for the urgently required repairs to the rest of the road is there, allocated and Hilltops Council is ready to display its intention to service the entire Hilltops Council area.

George came home to a very distraught wife, Mabel, and asked, “What’s the problem?”
“The chemist insulted me so badly on the phone this morning,” whimpered Mabel, “I waited forever for him to answer, he just snapped a rude insult at me and hung up.”
George thought he’d head down to the pub and have a word with his mate the chemist.
When he got there he asked what happened.
“It started this morning George, the alarm didn’t go off, I skipped breakfast, rushed out to the car only to realise I’d locked the house and the car keys were inside so I had to break a window.
“When I got back, I had to change a flat tyre, raced off and got a speeding ticket.
“When I got to work the shop was full of people complaining they had to wait ….. and the phone kept on ringing.
“In my haste I dropped a bottle of pills, banged my head on the cash register causing me to stagger and knock over the perfume display.
“About then I picked up the phone, it was Mabel, she asked me how to use a rectal thermometer ……….. all I did was tell her.”

I’m always looking for a feel good story such as that of Justice Susan Kiefel, just appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, the first woman to achieve this honour.
Justice Kiefel was a high school dropout aged 15, completed her year 12 certificate and legal studies at night and went on to forge a path for herself, and women in general, through the legal system, validating those words of encouragement those youngsters hopefully took on.

On this day in 1980 Beatle co-founder John Lennon was assassinated in New York.
Lennon was a great advocate for peace and many of his songs became anthems for peace sung by protesters of America’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
‘Imagine’ is his greatest hit in which he espouses the need for the world to live in peace together.
Another very popular ‘anthem’ is ‘Give Peace a Chance’ with a repetitive two lined chorus that has so much relevance in our troubled world:
“All we are saying is give peace a chance,
All we are saying is give peace a chance.” (John Lennon)
