His name appears on the Honour Board at Boorowa Central School as A. Kingsley Tiddy but it does not indicate his wartime death as it has with other ex-students.
He is not listed on the AWM Roll of Honour, a record of those who died while serving in the Australian forces, which had been used to double check the names of Boorowa's war dead.
As a result his death was not noted in Boorowa Remembers.
Hector Tiddy had slipped through the net because he died while serving with another country.
Therefore, his name appears in the AWM Commemorative Roll, a book that records Australians who died while serving with Allied Forces.
The following is a belated tribute.
2nd Lieutenant Hector Kingsley Portus 'King' TIDDY
'King' Tiddy, as he was known, was born in Petersham, NSW on 9 September 1891, to Henry Martin and Eva Alexandra Tiddy.
In 1896 Henry moved to Boorowa where, for the next thirteen years, he ran a general store.
King was enrolled at Boorowa Central School before attending Sydney Grammar.
After graduating from Sydney University with Honours in a Science Degree, King took up the post of Mathematics Master at Orange High School.
In January 1916 he enlisted in the AIF and was posted to 17 Battalion; being discharged in January 1917.
He attended the State Aviation School at Richmond and in April 1917 he was sent to England by the NSW Government, where he joined 7 Squadron Royal Flying Corps.
On 26 July 1917 he was killed on a practice flight near Proven in Belgium, when he lost control of his aircraft at a height of just 300 feet, went into a spin and crashed.
He was 25 years old.
King Tiddy is buried in the Military Cemetery at Mendinghem, Belgium, in Plot III, Row A, Grave I. He is also commemorated on the Honour Roll of Orange High School, and the Hurstville War Memorial in Sydney.
His great-nephew, Michael Tiddy, is the president of Oatley, NSW RSL Sub-Branch.
