The Book Nook is looking for volunteers

The Rotary Club of Murrumburrah-Harden Book Nook is opening on Thursday October 30 and is calling for volunteers to help run the fantastic initiative.

The Book Nook is a second-hand bookshop that is not for profit with any income made by the store being distributed by Rotary to local activities and organisations.

The Book Nook will be opened at the Old Tennis Court Clubhouse on Albury Street in Harden and will operate three days a week on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 10am and 4pm.

Volunteers are needed to meet and host visitors, guide them through what's available, chat and share a cup of tea or coffee, have fun, record sales in a simple process without complicated computers or electronics.

Shift days and times can be on a weekly, fortnightly, third weekly, monthly or casual basis between 10am and 1pm or 1pm to 4pm on the Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

The official opening will have a Halloween theme, which is fits with its opening date.

There will be nibbles and drinks available.

The Book Nook will sell a variety of donated books, including fiction, children's books and non-fiction titles.

The community driven project welcomes donations and is currently seeking books on cookery, gardening, crime fiction as well as fiction and children's books.

Murrumburrah-Harden Rotarian Rita O'Connor has thanked the community that has helped the initiative become a reality.

"Thank you to the community members and Rotarians who have been busy helping us," she said.

"We have been very busy organising bookshelves and filling them.

"Children made the books hanging above the shelves and they look great."

The Book Nook is supported by Graymont and Bunnings Young who have made donations that have allowed the initiative to go ahead.

Books have already flooded in from the Book Fair, the Harden Library and locals from throughout Harden-Murrumburrah.

No matter if you are a casual reader, an avid reader or a collector of books, visitors and locals alike are being encouraged to check out The Book Nook where they will find something for everyone.

While there and if they have the time, they are also encouraged to chat about volunteering.
