The Boorowa Rovers and Roverettes gathered at the Recreation Ground at a meet and greet afternoon with players and supporters ushering in the 2022 season.
It was a perfect evening that saw a bit of touch footy played followed by a barbecue and a few refreshing soft drinks.
The highlight of the launch was the official announcement of the coaches for the coming year, with former Rovers player and well-known personality Mick Elkins to coach the Boorowa Rovers whilst the super coach Byron Campbell is a welcome re-signing for his second season in charge of the Boorowa Roverettes.
The appointment of Mick Elkins is a major coup for the Rovers and one that is sure to be popular with young and old Boorowa supporters.
Mick was an exceptionally talented rugby league player for the Rovers and has a huge amount of passion and pride for the Boorowa Jersey.
The Elkins family has had a long association with Boorowa League teams both senior and junior over recent decades and Mick will leave no stone unturned in giving Boorowa the best possible chance of success in the coming year.
Last year's Rover's coach, Alex Stewart, stood down from the role late last year after doing a fantastic job with his young charges who were decimated with injury in the later half of 2021.
It is a blessing though that Alex has committed to another season as a player and with burden of coaching gone, no doubt he will be at his destructive best and play a key leadership role in the forwards this year.
Mick has hinted that he hopes to bring an attacking style of football in his capacity as coach which is sure to delight the local fans.
Given that the majority of last year's team will be back, coach Elkins should have plenty of young attacking talent in the Boorowa back line to work with.
Whilst it will be a few weeks before the playing roster will be finalised, the majority of last year's squad have committed to the coming year.
The Rovers were a competitive force for much of the shortened season last year but did lack an experienced big forward or two.
With the addition of one or two big boppers to lead the way, the enthusiastic and young forwards from last season will be a handful for opposing teams.
Meanwhile, the Roverettes should continue to flourish under the guidance of Byron Campbell who did an outstanding job last year.
Before COVID-19 shut the season down, Boorowa were headed for semi-final football, continuing to grow in confidence with every outing.
Like the Rovers, the full roster is yet to be finalised but it is projected most of last seasons team will be back.
One or two may be lost due to work and study commitments but it is anticipated a couple of new signings will also strengthen the side even further.
The Boorowa committee is unchanged from last year, signifying a healthy and stable club off the park, but we are always on the hunt for volunteers to help through out the season.
There are many roles to fill in hosting home games, so if you want to be a part of what is anticipated to be one of the most successful seasons in years, now is your chance to get involved.
We need everyone from barbecue cooks to ball boys and girls, so please contact the Rovers and Roverettes through the various channels.
The club is in its best financial position for some time, but sponsors are always needed too with a range of options available.
Again, please contact the Rovers and Roverettes for details.
