As you read this column, the final results for our local government elections should have been announced and I can only say, "About time!".
We face a federal election early this coming year and I can only hope that counting of votes is more efficient than what we are experiencing currently with the council elections. Neil Langford, talking to Richard Spence on 2LF last week, was very critical of the slow count and declaration of the vote.

At least Boorowa got their two candidates in, congratulations to John Piper and Jo Mackay.
The impressive performer was Alison Foreman who topped the count by a very long way.
Margaret Roles and Matthew Stadtmiller also polled well and we could even see Margaret Roles pop up as mayor.
Time will tell, but rest assured, Brian Ingram won't go down without a fight.

Christmas is very much in the air and the Rotary Christmas Markets held last Saturday were well frequented.
The town must be indebted to Rotary for running the monthly markets and we can only hope they get bigger and better as 2022 rolls on.
The Boorowa Spending Spree was drawn at the markets under the auspices of our good friends the Boorowa Business Chamber.
The lucky winner of the $4,200 to be splurged in our town is Ann Herrence from Rye Park, a great start to the festive season.

Courtesy of CWP Renewables and GE Renewable Energy, a Christmas lights competition has been run in Yass and Boorowa.
It is a well known fact Boorowa residents love driving around at night in December to take in all the beautiful Christmas lights displayed on many homes.
Ten local properties have caught the judges' eyes for you to find and admire.
The ten properties are 23 Campbell St, 90 Court St, 46 Dry St, 35 Farm St, 24 Jugiong St, 49-51 Jugiong St, 57 Kenyu Rd, 29 Market St, 15-17 Marsden St and 653 Tarrants Gap Rd, Reids Flat.
There you are, set your course and tour the town taking in the wonders of Christmas.

Freddie and John were fortunate enough to have a season ticket each to watch Chelsea FC.

They could not help noticing that there was a spare seat (B14) next to them and they told a friend who would love to buy a season ticket, especially if they could have seats together.
One half time Freddie went to the ticket office and asked if he could buy the season ticket B14.
The official said that unfortunately the ticket had been sold.
Nevertheless, week after week the seat was still empty.
Then, on Boxing Day, much to Freddie's and John's amazement, the seat was taken for the first time that season.
John could not resist asking the newcomer, "Where have you been all season?"

"Don't ask," he said, "the wife brought the season ticket back last Summer and kept it for a surprise Christmas present!"

Christmas thoughts from soon to be US Ambassador to Australia, Caroline Kennedy:
"It's true, Christmas can feel like a lot of work, particularly for mothers, but when you look back on all the Christmases in your life, you'll find you've created family traditions and lasting memories. Those memories, good and bad, are really what helps to keep the family together over the long haul."
And from me "Merry Christmas to all, may your new year be absolute tops".
