Cr Ingram will fill the role after the luck of a draw from the "hat" fell his way at Wednesday's Hilltops Council meeting.
When elections were held at the meeting to determine the Hilltops mayor and deputy mayor for the next two months Cr Ingram and Cr Marg Roles received five votes for the top role.
A draw from the "hat" then took place to determine who would fill the position.
Prior to the mayoral election councillors voted to place the names of both councillors into a "hat", a draw then taking place to determine who's name was proposed first in the mayoral vote.
This vote was done by a show of hands, as was the mayoral vote.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
A show of hands was the only option open to the councillors as all were not present in the Council chambers due to the COVID lockdown.
Hilltops general manager Anthony O'Reilly then drew Cr Roles' name first.
In favour of a changing of the guard were councillors Marg Rolls, John Walker, Matt Stadtmiller, Chris Manchester and Rita O'Connor.
Councillors Ingram, Tony Flanery, Tony Wallace, Greg Armstrong and John Horton voted for the status quo to remain in place.
The role of mayor was then determined by a draw from the "hat", again performed by Mr O'Reilly, with Cr Ingram successful.
Cr Tony Wallace was elected deputy mayor, as the only nominee for the position.
A second nominee withdrew prior to the meeting.
Cr Ingram thanked the councillors who supported him returning to the position of mayor.
