Boorowa's Jake McKenzie of Duncombe and Co Pty Ltd, Crookwell, was named NSW runner up in the 2021 ALPA NSW Young Auctioneers Competition last Thursday.
He was edged out by Will Claridge, C.L. Squires and Co, Inverell for top spot.
The state title preceded the national competition, which was taken out by Liam Kirkwood of Ray White Livestock, Townsville, with the runner up Sam Smith of Kevin Miller, Whitty, Lennon and Co, (KMWL) Forbes.
The competitors were judged on their diction, values, voice and manner by a panel of experienced auctioneers.
Meanwhile the Merriman family, no strangers to success at the Sydney Royal, have once again came away with plenty of accolades in this year's Merino sheep awards.
Wal and George Merriman took out:
- grand champion superfine Merino ram
- grand champion fine wool Merino ram
- grand champion fine wool Merino ewe
- grand champion superfine Poll Merino ewe
- grand champion fine wool Poll Merino ram
- grand champion fine wool Poll Merino ewe
- grand champion fine medium Poll Merino ram
- Supreme Merino ewe
- Sir Frederick McMaster Memorial Perpetual Trophy for most successful exhibitor March-shorn section
- Sir Walter Merriman Memorial Perpetual Trophy for most successful superfine and fine wool section
- most successful March-shorn Poll Merino exhibitor
The Merriman's were pipped at the post after a strong wool August-shorn ram from Hollow Mount, Bigga stole the show, named Supreme Exhibit for 2021 - the first August-shorn ram to take out the main prize in the show's 199 year history.
