Starlink puts Boorowa on the map

It's not often you can include Elon Musk and Boorowa in the same sentence but now it may be a possibility.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) shows Starlink Australia, SpaceX's satellite internet service, has been granted radiocommunications licences in four different locations around Australia.

One of these locations is Boorowa, with four white receivers spotted near the CSIRO Boorowa Agricultural Research Station south of the township.

The other locations are Broken Hill, Pimba in South Australia and Wagin in Western Australia.

Starlink promises "high-speed, low latency broadband internet" with expansion of the service to continue throughout 2021.

Satellites will be located closer to Earth, resulting in faster speeds for sending and receiving data.

In particular, it is being touted as "ideal" for rural and remote communities where connectivity has traditionally been a challenge.

An initial beta service is being rolled out on a first come, first serve basis to a limited number of users per coverage area.
