COVID-19 has, unfortunately, forced a change in the way we celebrate Australia Day his year.
Boorowa always attracts a crowd well in excess of 100 people.
This year COVID has meant attendances in excess of 100 have to be ticketed, have limited entrance and exit points and attendees have to be registered.
To conduct an event in our park considering the requirements, the Australia Day Committee faced a dilemma.
At the committee meeting last week, several options were considered and the group decided to go with the option presented by the Ex-Services Club and move the ceremony to that venue.
The Ex-Services Club operates under strict COVID compliance.
A modified program was established and residents are invited to gather at the Ex-Services Club for a 9.30am celebration and chance to acknowledge Boorowa's finest.
At this ceremony, expect the usual formalities, awards will be presented, the school captains will host the event and there will be a Junior Ambassador.
The committee decided it was not advisable at this time to have a visitor from Sydney so Ambassador Sue Milliken regrettably will not be attending.
Most of the usual Australia Day activities are still on.
Bowls will be on from 1.30pm at the Ex-Services Club, golf from 5.30pm at the Recreation Club and the popular Boorowa Balladeers as usual from 4pm at the Recreation Club.
Kids wishing to throw a line in the pond, Gavin Campbell assures us that there are fish there so fishing can start at 8am, but let Gavin Know you are interested.
Gavin's contact number is 0457 622 113.
Boorowa Rotary Club are selling their ducks and appreciate your continued support.
There will be no duck race, but a 'Duck Draw' will be held at the Ex-Services Club at 11am on the day.
Rotary has also generously shouted volunteers in Rotary, Lions, Australia Day Committee, award winners and members of involved organisations to an Australia Day luncheon at the Ex-Services Club.
All in all, it is hoped Boorowa residents can involve themselves in the day, get along to the awards and other activities but at all times stay COVID safe.
In this regard, if intending to attend the ceremony at the club, please let the club know and book your seat, or table if coming as a group.
The club's number is 6385 3338.
On the day you will need to register your attendance.
Have a great Australia Day and despite all the problems, remember - enjoy!
