In what can only be described as one of the strangest, most disruptive years in recent memory, somehow, someway, some sport was played.
Join us as we look back at the year that was in:
January
Cricket teams still in the hunt
With January comes the resumption of cricket, and both the Gators and Crocs got off to flying starts.
The Crocs began 2020 with a fine 42 run win over Bowning at the Boorowa Recreation ground whilst the Gators won away from home by 123 runs against the Yass Club House Horns.
Tight voting for Australia Day awards
With a number of sports still in recess over the summer break, it was time to reflect on the efforts of individual and teams with the Australia Day Sports Awards.
It was a tight vote for all categories - Senior Sportsperson of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year (18 years and under), Junior Sportsperson of the Year (12 years and under), Club Person of the Year and Sporting team of the Year.
Club Person of the Year was between Brian Giles-Browne and Sharon Hinds, with the award going to Giles-Browne.
Nominated for Junior Sportsperson of the Year (18 years and under) was Jacob Piper, Mackella Pye, Imogen Pye and Joseph Prosper.
Nominated for Junior Sportsperson of the Year (12 years and under) was Harry Dymock, Blake Cross, Preston Harris and Archie Gay.
Preston Harris took out the award took out the 12 years and under category, while Jacob Piper won 18 years and under.
Sporting Team of the Year went to the Boorowa Rovers, while Josh Carmody was named Senior Sportsperson of the Year.
February
Sweating in the heat, and on results
It was a very warm start to February for our senior and junior crickets, with some games called off due to the rising mercury.
It was a sure thing for the Crocs, who sealed a spot in the Yass A Grade finals with a nail biting two wicket win over the competition front runners, the Yass Golf Club Cobras.
A loss to Dalton the next week meant the side would actually face Dalton once again in the first week of the semi-finals.
The Gators however, with a loss to the Yass Taipans, only had a glimmer of mathematical hope to play semi-final cricket.
However luck didn't fall their way and the Gators missed out on finals contention.
Work begins on new tennis courts
A very welcome addition in 2020 was the construction of new tennis courts at the Boorowa Showground.
Preparation commenced on the sub-grade surface in February.
Construction under way on Horse Arena
Meanwhile, just down the road, the second stage of construction was taking place at the Boorowa Horse Arena.
Both the courts and the arena are part of the Boorowa Showground Complex, with hopes of the venue becoming a regional sporting hub.
Schools get swimming
Both schools were able to hold their swimming carnivals before COVID-19 restrictions came in.
There were plenty of records broken across both schools and a number of students made it to regional competitions.
At the Western Region Swimming Championships in Harden, St Joseph's student Charlie McGuiness was Junior Boy Champion, Poppy McGuiness was Intermediate Girl Champion Runner Up along with Archie Coble as Intermediate Boy Champion, a wonderful achievement.
15 of the students qualified for the Archdiocesan Carnival in March.
