Goldies coach Andrew Corcoran said it was a satisfying result to finish the match six tries to one.
"The conditions were pretty horrible, a lot of dropped balls and a lot of scrums," he said.
"A pretty physical game where West Wyalong tried to bash us a bit, they got a penalty in the first half and went into half time 17-3.
"But our forwards muscled up and we had another great game from Angus Burns, our prop, who's been outstanding all year."
Corcoran said the side's defence excelled in the wet and slippery conditions and he was proud of the performance from the squad's younger players.
"The players coming of the bench did a really great job and kept the pressure on all game, we defended well and only had one line break all day," he said.
"They scored their try on the back of a few penalties so we'll take that.
"We had no injuries and a few of the younger players did well, Austin Power got another hat-trick, Jayden Cutting played his first game at outside centre and went really well."
With Cootamundra beating Harden and placing Boorowa at the top of the ladder, this weekend's game put a lot at stake.
"If we can win our last two games with bonus points we're a chance to host the grand final," Corcoran said.
"Some people in town have told me, and I'm not sure how true it is, but we haven't been on the top of the table since 2010.
"We've only got the two premierships in 2009 and 1985, we're a club that excels off the park and we've had good times on the park so it's good to be up there.
"In this year's final series you win or you're out, so it will be very high stakes."
Corcoran said the side was looking good for their final games with only some minor work needed.
"We'll work on a bit of discipline and trying to speed up a bit, perfect what we've already been doing," he said.
"We're not going to be trying anything new because we've only got four training seasons for the season left then into finals.
"It's been a bit shoot from the hip a little bit, we haven't had a chance to get settled in a season.
"But people have enjoyed it and a few partners who have enjoyed it and overall it's a fair comp."
With his side hosting their final home game of the regular season, Corcoran hoped the community would turn out this weekend.
"The team is pretty excited for the challenge against Cootamundra and know it's going to be physical and tough," he said.
"They have a good pack with some pretty solid backs, especially in close, so it will be a good test for us.
"The weather is not going to be great, with a top of eight and a chance of snow, but it'd be good to see as many people as we can have there.
"In their cars staying warm, social distancing and staying safe."
