The school hosted Beanie Day on August 8, which marks Mary MacKillop Feast Day.

Funds raised from gold coin donations on the day will go towards Mary MacKillop Today, an organisation supporting vulnerable, young students in Fiji and raising money to start a mobile Early Childhood Education Van to support these families and students in remote villages.

Religious Education Coordinator, Paul Corcoran, said it was a great initiative by the kids.

"The school has a Mini Vinnies/Social Justice group which involves Year 4 and 5 students who run fundraiser for different activities throughout the year," he said.

"This is lead by our teacher Mrs Evans.

"The kids thought this would be a great idea to support this activity and also remember and celebrate the Feast Day of Mary MacKillop."

Mary MacKillop, who was born in Melbourne in January 1842, was a Josephite nun who had a deep desire to help and educated students who were disadvantaged in Australia and New Zealand.

Together, with the Reverend Tenison-Woods, she was the founder of the Josephite Nuns and these nuns started schools and welfare institutions across rural Australia and New Zealand during the mid 1800s.

She became Australia's first saint a little less than a decade ago, on October 17, 2010 and her feast day is celebrated on August 8 each year.
