Hilltops Rocks, a rock painting hide and seek pop up game, has gathered huge momentum during past few months across Young and surrounds.
It was established by Matt and Cheryl Clarke who moved to Young with their two daughters Madison, 7, Chloe, 5, from the state's Central Coast in January this year.
Matt said his kids loved painting and finding rocks around the Central Coast, and decided to start hiding them around the Hilltops.
"It's like a big game of hide and seek but using painted rocks for people to find. It is extremely fun and easy for adults and kids to be involved in. Anyone can be part of the fun by using their creative skills and painting some rocks to hide in local parks and places of interest for others to find. It's amazing how something so simple and easy can bring so much joy and happiness to the community," Matt said.
A Facebook group called Hilltops Rocks has grown to nearly 300 members, with many families joining the fun during the COVID pandemic.
"I think because people were spending more time at home due to the COVID-19 restrictions, painting rocks gave people a great way to spend their extra time and give them something fun to focus on. Kids love painting rocks so it was easy for parents to give them a few rocks and a paint brush and it keeps them entertained for hours."
Anyone who finds a rock should join the Facebook page and post a picture of their find for other members to see.
The finder can either keep the rock or hide it again for someone else to find.
Rocks have been found in Boorowa, Jugiong, Young, Wombat and Harden.

Some helpful tips and general rules to follow:
- Acrylic paints seem to work best if you are painting a rock of your own to hide for someone to find.
- Rocks must be sealed using a Clear Sealer so that they will hold up to the elements and keep them looking great for future finders.
- Make sure you write 'Hilltops Rocks' and the Facebook logo on the back of the rock, so people know how to find us and what to do with their discovery.
- Be careful where you hide your rocks so that they don't cause any damage to property.
- If you find a rock then post a pic on our Facebook page, 'Hilltops Rocks' and you can then choose to 'Keep' or 'Rehide' the rock you found.
