Carnival organiser, Julie Harton, said the carnival was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and ton the advice of the Catholic Education Office and the Department of Education NSW.
"The thing that worried most of us was, if we run the carnival and someone came and had COVID and then left the community with it, we couldn't live with ourselves," she said.
"We are hoping to have on that day an inter-school carnival down at the Rec Oval, just so that we at least do have something.
"But it will depend on happens between now and then."
The Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival has been running for 55 years beginning in 1965 with rugby league before adding netball in 1968.
In 1998 the carnival changed into the format we see today, with touch football and being hosted on a Friday rather than a Saturday.
While the carnival serves as the major fundraiser for both St Joseph's and Boorowa Central School, Ms Harton said the community's health was paramount.
"It is a big loss financially to both schools because we rely on the fundraising to purchase additional equipment and supplies," she said.
"Particularly this year when we've had little fundraising and had to buy equipment for remote learning.
"But everyone's health is more important than a game of touch or netball."
She said the carnival committee wished to thank everyone for their support over the years and were looking forward to 2021.
"We've had positive responses from the schools about the 2021 date and they have said they're pleased we cancelled it," she said.
"They understand that we were very saddened to cancel the carnival, but we couldn't run the risk.
"We're very grateful for the community and Hilltops Council for supporting us, hopefully will be ready to go again on October 15, 2021."
