Council understands this service cannot replace the traditional ceremonies which sadly are unable to be held this year due to the impacts and restrictions caused by the COVID-19 virus.
The NSW RSL and Young sub-Branch are asking that residents wishing to commemorate the occasion go outside and stand in their driveways at 5.55am to play or listen to the 2YYY 92.3 FM broadcast via local radio or livestream the broadcast to your mobile device commencing at 5.59am.
The service will observe the following order:
The Ode
The Last Post
One minute's silence
Reveille
The Young RSL sub-Branch is also encouraging residents to decorate their letterbox with springs of rosemary or a small Australian flag.
Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram said, "Hilltops Council is very supportive of the driveway service as a way of honouring our veterans on ANZAC Day".
"This is a great way of being able to commemorate such an important event without breaking social distancing rules. In doing so they will join thousands of other Australians honouring the sacrifices of our armed service members."
Young RSL sub-Branch President John Walker hopes that Hilltops residents will join the wider community in honouring our veterans and ensuring they will never be forgotten, even during these unprecedented times.
"This is a unique opportunity to commemorate such an important day and feel united as a community in this way. It will be a very memorable and moving event. I thank the local Driveway Service coordinators who have organised this service for our region," he said.
