Bowls cancelled as Stanford has success at tournament

Brett Stanford competed in the annual Wheelchair Sports tournament.
Brett Stanford competed in the annual Wheelchair Sports tournament.

At last Thursday's bowls, veteran Darrel Murphy survived a late surge by another veteran Dick Mattress to win the trophy by 27 points to 26.

There were four players then on 24 points.

They were Tim Bonfield, Tony Cassells, Shane Foote and Greg Thurtell.

The Bowling Association has cancelled the rest of the Pennant season, commencing immediately.

That is disappointing, just when we were getting into form.

With the latest restriction being the closure of registered clubs, at time of writing I am unable to say what the future of Thursday bowls will be.

Brett Stanford travels again for tournament

On a brighter note, last week local bowler Brett Stanford travelled to Raymond Terrace for six days to play in the annual Wheelchair Sports tournament.

He endured a tough draw winning two of his six matches.

He then travelled onto Belmont Bowling Club for a afternoon tournament.

He won the points score for the afternoon which was a great achievement.

I have no information on the future of Thursday bowls.

All players will need to contact the club if anyone is there to see if we can play on Thursday.
