Boorowa will have its very own Blessing of the Animals service at St John's Anglican Church on Sunday, October 27.
This ceremony follows a custom which is believed to have been started by St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment, some 800 years ago.
The ceremony celebrates the significant bond which most people have with their pets, many of which are regarded as 'part of the family.'
The Blessing of the Animals is a public expression of the importance of pets and domestic animals in the life of the community.
The Boorowa ceremony will begin with a brief, informal religious service at 9.30am, the chief focus of which will be the blessing of these valued companions by Anglican minister the Rev Bob Lindebeck.
The service will be following by a free sausage sizzle, with all the trimmings, including free ice cream, and a number of fun activities, mainly to cater for the younger members of the community.
Parents and friends are also welcome to enjoy the occasion.
Those bringing their pets should ensure that they are either led or restrained so that there is no danger to people or other pets. If you don't have a pet, come along anyway and bring your favourite toy animal.
This promises to be an enjoyable Sunday morning activity to welcome the spring and early warm summer weather, and a celebration of the importance of faithful animals in the lives of the people of the community.
