Big day of racing down the road
There's just over a fortnight to go to Harden Picnic Races and, as always, it promises to be a packed day of racing action.
Six races will be held at this year's event, including the headline event, the Graymont and Nathan Schofield Carpentry and Concreting 1400m Harden Picnic Cup.
Other notable events include the Harden Fuel Supplies and Peisley's Livestock Transport 1100m Open Handicap, with $29,500 of prize money available for connections across the day.
Meanwhile for those who have their mind on races further afield, there promises to be plenty of opportunity to take in televised racing, with the Victorian Mooney Valley Racing Club's Cox Plate running at the same time as the local meet.
Other races within Sydney and Melbourne will also be televised, while Sky Channel, TAB local and interstate bookmakers will also be in attendance at the event.
Racing kicks off at 1pm, with buses going back and forth to the track, allowing patrons to have a safe and enjoyable day out.
Meanwhile, there will also be live entertainment throughout the afternoon should people need a change of pace from the racing.
Fashions on the Field reutrns once more
As always though, there is another competition that will be taking place at this year's race and that's the contest to be best dressed.
Judging for the best dressed lady and gentleman will begin at 3.40pm, while supporting categories, including the best dressed couple and best hat/fascinator, will be held at 3pm.
There are also multiple categories for fashionistas, with juniors (up to 12 years of age) and teenage attendees (13-17 years of age) being judged from 2.30pm.
Entrants will be required to register to take part in any of the categories, with registration open from 12.30pm to 2pm.
Alison Foreman of Young's Label A and Simone Ward of Harden's Homestead Style and Native Botanica will be the judges of this year's competition.
Businesses lend a hand to support a local event
Plenty of businesses have thrown their support behind this year's event, with the likes of Jugiong Wine Cellar, the Sir George Hotel Jugiong, Jak and Jill Cootamundra and Cooper's Butchery among the many proprietors helping to give the event a dash of local spirit.
This year's races, the 39th time the picnic races will run in Harden, will take place on Saturday, October 26.
