Prime Minister Scott Morrison didn't do Australia or himself any harm on his recent trip overseas. I like the way he calls it as it is. Compared to the histrionic gloom and doom presentation of Greta Thunberg, his address to the United Nations was practical, environmentally addressing plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean. He said Australia is focusing very much on global environmental challenges, but it is not just about climate change, but plastics, our oceans and recycling.

Prime Minister Morrison later said he was against fueling children's anxiety regarding climate change saying, "I do understand that people do feel strongly about this, but we have to ensure we get a proper context and perspective".
He added, "I want children growing up in Australia to feel positive about their future". He added he wants children to have a wonderful country to live in with a pristine environment and economy they can live in as well.
ScoMo, doing the walk, doing the talk. So far so good.

The joys of political life can be like the proverbial yoyo. Boris Johnson has ruffled feathers in England and odds are he could well be the shortest serving Prime Minister in British history. Swing across the Atlantic and our mate Donald is facing a push to impeach him. I am truly willing to bet he serves a second term - unless of course, he is indeed impeached, or, heaven forbid, shot. Now that's another story.

Was I dreaming? Donald Trump was speaking to an outdoor rally when one of his guards saw a sniper lining Donald up to take a shot. The guard screamed, "Mickey Mouse!"
Donald fell to the ground fatally shot. The other guards in amazed and startled voices screamed, "What did you mean screaming 'Mickey Mouse' at that crucial moment?"
With head held low, the guard in somber voice said, "I got confused - I meant to say "Donald Duck."

Neil Langford on 2LF Tuesday of last week asked me to comment, as a 'Baby Boomer', my thoughts on the term 'Butterfly Generation' given today's younger generation. I must admit Neil didn't get an inspiring response. Being a 'Baby Boomer', I did make the comment that the retirement from teaching of this older generation saw the loss of teachers thoroughly drilled in mathematics, grammar, writing and speaking. The basics of what kids require.
Last week I read a headline, 'Teachers fail to make the grade. Teachers were being employed without due merit selection process. Some teachers couldn't spell. Write or speak satisfactorily, problems most likely brought about by inadequacies in their own education.

The 'Baby Boomers' leaving has obviously created a big gap, in the teaching ranks, especially when looking for quality educators. There are many mitigating circumstances affecting the development of young minds, but unless our educational systems feed them big doses of 'the basics', future generations will find the skills encompassed in the 3 R's (Reading, 'riting, 'rithmetic) lacking. Don't get me wrong, most teachers are dedicated and enthusiastic, but if you haven't got it, how do you teach it?
