So sad to hear of the passing of Tim Fischer last week.

It hardly seems a little more than a year ago I met him here in Boorowa and he penned some glowing words about Boorowa that I included in WITS of April 26, 2018.
So much has been said and written about Tim Fischer and I concluded the piece with sentiments appropriate today: "Tim Fischer, a real people's person, energetic and positive - a great Australian".
A rare political character loved and admired by all, irrespective of political persuasion.

In a little over a year the residents of the Hilltops Council area will go to the polls to elect a new council.
Currently Wendy Tuckerman is our only representative on council, but unfortunately, due to her commitments with representing Goulburn Electorate in State Parliament, she will not be a candidate.
Where does that leave Boorowa?

Several weeks ago I suggested anyone seeking to win a seat on the new council should start their campaign there and then.
I also suggested there was a need to build a profile beyond Boorowa.
Nothing has changed in this regard.
The question we must now ask: Who is going to put their hand up?
Somehow Boorowa has to find some very good candidates, candidates who will have a chance to win several seats on council.
While I write this column, I can assure potential candidates I will do all I can to support them.
I would like to know of anyone going to 'have a go'.

Can you believe Paddy?
Unbelievable!
While reading an article about fathers and sons, memories came flooding back to the time Paddy took his son out for his first pint.
Off they went to their local pub only two blocks from the cottage.
Paddy got him a Guinness, he didn't like it so Paddy drank it down.
Then Paddy got him a Kilkenny, he didn't like that either, so Paddy drank it.
Paddy thought he might like some Harp Lager.
He didn't, so Paddy drank it.
Paddy thought he might like whisky better, so they tried a Jamesons... nope.
In desperation, Paddy had him try that rare Redbreast, Ireland's finest whisky.
He wouldn't even smell it.
What could Paddy do but drink it.
By this time Paddy realised his son just wasn't keen on alcohol and Paddy was so drunk he could hardly push his son's stroller back home.

Tuesday, September 10, the Boorowa Australia Day Committee will meet and begin to put the formal arrangements into our 2020 Australia Day celebrations here in Boorowa.
The meeting is on the second Tuesday in September, as mentioned, 7.30pm at the Ex-Services Club.
All new members and ideas are always welcome.
Australia Day is the time when the community acknowledges the wonderful achievements of our citizens.
Nominations will soon be invited for Citizen of the Year, Young Achiever, Community Australia Day Awards and our sporting stars.
Give these awards thought now and be ready to nominate your favourites when invitations to nominate go out.

Organisations need to be contacted, which is sometimes not so easy.
The little blue Boorowa and District Telephone Directory 2019/2020 does have a comprehensive list of community organisations on the sixth page, most of which are current.
If your organisation contact is not correct, or if your organisation is not listed, could you please contact St Joseph's Primary School, Janene Hurley or myself to organise an update.
