A range of stakeholders from the NSW Government, ACT Government, Canberra Region Joint Organisation and Hilltops Council hosted an introduction to exporting seminar on Monday morning at the Town Hall in Young.
Nearly 50 people from businesses from across the region attended, including producers of wine, meat, cherries, processed and gourmet food, and mangesium oxide.
The seminar involved a two-part presentation, a discussion with panelists representing businesses that provide services to the export supply chain, and time for networking.
The purpose was to help businesses understand the export process and identify and discuss potential opportunities for utilisation of Canberra Airport.
Chair of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation and mayor of Yass Valley Council Rowena Abbey said it was the first workshop held in the Canberra region.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for us at this time with the Canberra Airport, international flights and connectivity into Canberra to move product and produce quickly. It's one of the strategic priorities of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation around export, freight, logistics and it's exciting to see," she said.
Hilltops mayor Brian Ingram said it was success.
"We had all the links in the chain here. All the people involved to make exporting better for people in our region were in the room today," Hilltops mayor Brian Ingram said.
"Local businesses were here to make contacts they can follow up and they will look forward to working to continuing relationship with those people, mainly through the work of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation."
The Canberra Region Joint Organisation represents 12 councils across south-east NSW and has affiliate membership with Canberra Airport.
